C., Thur* clay, March 2. ! . 1 f'lo * * ElUiOiilAl.S Beer Situation The North Carolina Committee-Uni ted States Brewers Foundation has ta ken cognizance of the Danbury beer disturbance, while Mr. Claude Ramsey, of Raleigh, the Publie Relations Dire:- tor, sends the Reporter the following release for publication: "The late legislature made sever:'. 1 changes in the laws governing* the sale and distribution of beer in North Caro lina, one of which — "Authorizes cou nt v commissi .ners and municipal governing boards to re uise renewal of retail beer license when applicant has, dining the prejed i v.'' li. ene yeai 1 , comniitted any act or 'ierm'tted any condition foi* which his *i -n-'o was, or might have been revok ed." It is learned that a representative of the Erewer-- Foundation from Raleigh has visited Walnut Cove and Danbury in an investigation of beer conditions, and gave oot the information that the committee would have representatives here before the July meeting of the Stokes Board of Commissioners when present licenses of beer dealers expire. Danbury people petitioned the late General Assembly to prohibit tjie sale of beer within a mile of any church in Dan burv, but t ] -e Senate Committee adnnn isteivd a ji iet dose of slee]#ing to the petition, it wa> never heard fiom again. End of \Y ar In Europe Is In Sight Many people believe it will all be over in :>) days. Eight American armies have shatter ed the Germans on the western fr nt. The enemy is routed and fleeing. Gen era! i'atton is reported today less th;v:i ! v > miles tV>m Berlin. Hundreds ard thousands of lirisoners are being tiiken. it is ii race between the First and Third armies. On the eastern front the Russian ar mies, more than 2,000,000 strong, are smashing the Germans back every where. Stalin is reported massing men and material for a frontal attack on Berlin, only about .'>o miles distant. Thousands of aircraft are tearing the German cities to shreds everywhere. There are strong indications of the collapse of «-ivilian morale all over Ger many, similar to the 19IS situation. We have waited long for the crushing victory which now is in sight. Hoey and Bailey The Senate's rejection of Aubrey Williams' nomination for Rural Electri fication Administrator was a sharp re buff for President Roosevelt. The vote was 52 to 36. Only 4 Republicans voted for confirmation, 33 Republicans and 19 "conservative" Democrats voting against it. Senator Hoey of North Car olina gave his ballot for confirmation, Senator Bailey, of course, against.
